A filterless humidifier offers the owner something quite special. It is sort of a testament to the advancement in the technology of appliances around the house. It frees the owner from having to spend money on replacement filters and makes cleaning the unit much simpler. Instead of using a filter and avoid humidifier filter cleaing requirements, the humidifier charges the particles in the air and passes it through an oppositely charged plate. The charged particles and debris are forced to stick with the oppositely charged plate thus ridding them from the air that is output from the unit.
There are a few safety concerns regarding the use of a filterless humidifier because of what the charges do to the air molecules. It is known to produce ozone caused by altering the air molecules and too much ozone can actually be lethal. The true danger is in the dosage and concentration of ozone in any confined space. The most important thing to remember for safe usage is to follow manufacturer guidelines. The number one consideration is the room size the unit is used in. Make sure that the humidifier is appropriately sized even with a regular humidifier to avoid problems such as too much ozone or over humidification which can be just as problematic as dryness.
Over humidification is another concern when using a humidifier. Most units today will offer a humidification meter which will allow the user to set the levels at which the unit will turn itself off to avoid over humidification. This is of course a feature that will probably not exist in the most basic models. Nonetheless it makes it much easier to use and manage your unit. Just as dryness can cause problems especially with wood products too much humidity can promote mold, mildew and other problems which can threaten the health of people especially young children or infants.
